Jared Michael Wilkins
Jared Michael Wilkins (29) of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 29. Jared was the son of Eric Wilkins and stepmother Marcia of Kennett Square and the son of Margie Mengle and stepfather David of Mechanicsburg. He is survived by a paternal grandmother Alice Ruppert of Mount Wolf and paternal step-grandfather Sam Wickersham of Kennett Square. He is also survived by his brothers: Matthew Wilkins off Harrisburg; Andrew Wilkins of Pittsburgh; and step-siblings: Benjamin Mengle of Shiremanstown; Cera Knaby of Landisburg; Forrest Mengle of Mechanicsburg, Lori Gebert of Downington; and Mark Malchione of Kennett Square as well as their spouses and children. Jared was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents Robert L. and Elsie S. Finkey; step-grandparents Robert H. and Phyliss C. Mengle. Jared was a 2006 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and a 2015 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in American Studies. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 2006 – 2010. He was a member of the 4th Platoon, Alpha Company, 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion. Stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, he was a mechanic for the assault vehicles as well as a coach on the rifle range. His service in the Marines included deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, in 2008-2009. Jared worked at Kee Medical in Carlisle and Dick's Sporting Goods of Mechanicsburg at the time of his death. Despite being introverted, Jared was quick with a joke and able to make people smile. He enjoyed videogames, reading historical literature, fishing in Canada especially with his Pop-Pop Mengle and spending time with his rescue dog Riley. A brief memorial service honoring Jared will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 135 West Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg followed by light refreshments and a time of fellowship with Jared's family. www.malpezzifuneralhome.com
