Joan Brooks Obituary

Born Sept. 3, 1945, in North Adams, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Marie Sacco.

A 1964 graduate of Drury High School, Mrs. Brooks was a representative of hotel sales for several local hotels.

She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey, where she was an active volunteer, and Hummelstown Lioness Club.

Mrs. Brooks was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, making costumes, cooking and entertaining.

She is survived by Claudio J. Valeri Sr. of Hummelstown; two sons, Claudio J. Valeri Jr. of Hummelstown, who is the wrestling coach at Carlisle High School, and Peter F. Valeri of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Lisa Marie Valeri of Hummelstown; three grandsons, Casey John, Gavin and Jonah; one sister, Rose Marie Brierley of Clarksburg, Mass.; two nieces, Dawn Brierley and Jill Oquschewitz and one nephew, Shawn Brierley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey, with the Rev. Fr. Philip G. Burger, her pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Hummelstown Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the rosary recited at 6:45 p.m., in Tretz and Bowser Funeral Home Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Capital Region Unit, 3211 N. Front. St., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to Hummelstown Lioness Club, c/o Shirley Breckenmaker, 304 E. Main St., Hummelstown, PA 17036.
