John Weaver Obituary

John W. H. "Jack" Weaver

John W. H. "Jack" Weaver, age 85, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017.

He was born August 14, 1931 in Harrisburg to the late Edwin F. Weaver, Jr. and Christine (Happel) Weaver.

Jack graduated from John Harris High School, Class of 1949, and Ursinus College in 1953 with a degree in Business Administration. He then enlisted in the United States Army in July 1953, serving during the Korean Conflict, and being discharged in 1956. He later received an MBA in Policy Planning from the University of Missouri in 1978. He married Alma M. (Swartz) Calaman in 1971 and they moved to Leawood, KS to continue his career with United Telecom. They stayed there for the first 28 years of marriage and then lived in Carlisle after retirement in 1989 from Sprint. During his career at Sprint from 1972-1978, he held the position of Staff Director. His accomplishments included: membership in the Industrial Management Club of Harrisburg; former member of Salem United Church of Christ, where he was a Deacon, Elder and President of the Consistory. He participated in many church and community activities and was selected to be in "Who's Who" in Finance Industry. In his younger days, he spent endless hours at the Mt. Gretna Lake where he was a lifeguard and did various small jobs during the summer months there. During his retirement, Jack enjoyed going to Gold's Gym in Carlisle where he made many new friends. But of all the things he enjoyed in life, Jack enjoyed playing the piano faithfully for one hour daily.

He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Alma M. (Swartz) Weaver of Carlisle; a sister, Christine Boone Willis of Ann Arbor, MI; two sons, David (and wife Jan) Weaver of Mt. Gretna and John (and wife Caroline) Weaver of Newtown Square, PA; four grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two step-granddaughters; and two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin F. Weaver III and William H. Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. William E. Pipp officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Gretna Historical Society, 206 Pennsylvania Ave., Mt. Gretna, PA 17064.
