Paul F. Stringfellow, 85, of "F" Street in Carlisle, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services.
Born on Nov. 16, 1921, in Carlisle, he was the son of the late George M. and Grace E. Goodyear Stringfellow and the widower of Bette Fladger Stringfellow.
He retired in February of 1980, as a management analyst in the systems control office of the U.S. government, Department of the Army. He began his civil service career at Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown. In 1966, he transferred to the Letterkenny Army Depot in Franklin County, as a management analyst in the systems control office. He served 22 and one-half years in the U.S. Army Reserves with the administration company headquarters of the 28th Division. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was stationed in Assam Province, India, during World War II. He later served with the American-Chinese logistic liaison team in Canton, China, after the war. He was discharged in 1946.
He was life member and past-exalted ruler of the Elks BPO Lodge 578, Carlisle, from 1967 to 1968. He also served as lodge treasurer, on the board of trustees, and with other various committees. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 477, Carlisle. He was a member of AARP No. 3378.
Surviving are a son, Michael F. Stringfellow of Huntsville, Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Arnold of Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 15, in the First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Lynn Schultz officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Allen, with full military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, where an Elks service will be conducted.
