Chris Castillo Obituary
Chris was born Dec. 12, 1987, in Carlsbad. He attended Riverside, Emmitt Smith and Pate elementary schools, P.R. Leyva and Carlsbad High School. He attended Fox & Lake Church of Christ. He played soccer and baseball. He was on the P.R. Leyva Mustang track and football teams and Caveman soccer team. He enjoyed cooking, rabbit hunting, gardening and making campfires. He always had time to spend with his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rick Castillo Sr. and grandfather, Alfredo Castillo Sr. Survivors include parents, Jim Mackovich and Denise Montano; Glynn and Debbie Shelton of Carlsbad; grandparents: Patsy Castillo of Carlsbad and Jim and Barbara Runkle of Carlsbad; siblings: Rick Castillo and wife, Cindi, Nicki Morrison and husband, Jeff, Andrea Molina and husband, Mike, Sara Whitzel and husband, Michael and Orlando Castillo; nieces and nephews: Kyle, Sandon, Jordin, Brooklynn, Baylee, Taighen, Jarek, Gavin, Ty, Aislenn and Blake; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delancey Street Foundation, PO Box 1240 San Juan Pueblo, NM, 87566.

To the family,
Chris was a bright, fun, lovable, increcdible, and amazing man. Chris meant the world to me and he always will. I wish I could have attented the services, but my heart was there. I loved chris with all of my heart and no matter where life takes me I will still carry him with me in my heart. Not only did he light up the world it lit up my world and heart. He will be missed deeply. I heard the funeral service was amazing and filled with those who loved him and that makes me happy to hear yall were so good to him and he had more love in his life than he knew.Ya'll and him will always be in my heart and prayers.

To the Family of Chris Castillo
I would like to offer my condolence to you all. I was truly blessed to have known and coached Chris, what a fine young man he was on and off the field. If Chris would see me around town he did not hesitate to come up and ask how are you doing coach, which would make my day just that more special. We do not under stand why these kind of things happen but i will always have the memories of Chris and his accomplishments for the rest of my life.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Chris was a fun guy! He was always smiling and being silly, every time we worked together (at the drive-in) he would make me laugh at least 100 times. He will be greatly missed! May the love of God enfold you during your difficult times and help you heal with the passage of time.

Chris was a good kid with a good heart. I enjoyed my short time getting to know Chris while substitute teaching at CHS in 2003 and 2004. I know he will be missed.
My heart goes out to the Castillo family. I know the wound of his loss will take time to heal. God bless...

I am bereft at reading of Chris's death. He was one of my favorite students at Leyva. He kept me laughing...probably so much that I wouldn't notice how he wasn't getting his work done.
My favorite memory is of him and two friends doing the song from "The Thee Amigos."
