I met David at Alta Vista Junior High. He was an outstanding track athlete . He was not a huge guy but he had tremendous desire to excel. I remember one track meet against our rival Eisenhower. He was running in the 880 yard race against Paul Weems. Paul was in the first lane and George in the second lane. After the first 220 yards he could have changed to the inside lane. He stayed in the second lane the entire race and lost by a few yards. He ran so many more yards than he should have. Several of us ran inside the track yelling for him to change lanes. He would have won. After the race he told us that he thought if he did that was cheating.
