Jerry Lee Stevens, 85, of Pate Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Friday, December 1, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2017, 2:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jerry Lee Stevens was born October 3, 1932 in Selman City, Texas to Dave and Elva (Adams) Stevens and moved to Carlsbad as a child. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1951. Jerry married JoAnn Coalson March 17, 1951 here in Carlsbad. He began his career with U.S. Borax as an apprentice electrician and worked his way up to journeyman electrician. He later worked some construction jobs and various jobs as an instrument technician before going to work for Mississippi Chemical where he retired in 1997. His favorite pastimes were hiking, camping, and building projects with his lathe and milling machine, plus he had an intense interest in local history. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Davene Bennett and Jody Kennedy. Survivors are his wife, JoAnn Stevens of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Brenda Hendren and husband, Mike of Cloudcroft, NM; son, David Stevens and wife, Notha of Cloudcroft, NM; grandchildren: Brian Stevens, Jesse Stevens and wife, Tiffany, Scott Hendren and wife, Trisha, Leslie Kingston and husband, Danny and Summer Lenze and husband, Chris; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Scott Hendren, Terry Ives, Wesley Kennedy, Danny Kingston, Brian Stevens and Jesse Stevens. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
