John Perry Hobbs Jr.

1935 - 2017

John Perry Hobbs Jr. was born to Margaret (Thatcher) and John Perry Hobbs Sr., on December 22, 1935, in Bakersfield California. He fell asleep in death on October 28, 2017, at the age of 81. On October 5th 1963, he married Bertie Elizabeth Nelson, in Arroyo Grande, California. Throughout their lives together, they lived in California, Texas and New Mexico. They settled in Carlsbad in 1972, raising their 5 children together. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, on May 22, 1971. In 1991, he retired from the potash mines. During his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering in a bible education work, and helping out in the local congregation. He spent his free time making hand crafted knives, instruments, and furniture. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and playing country music. He is survived by his wife Bertie Elizabeth Hobbs, his brothers Joseph Hobbs of Santa Maria California, and Paul Hobbs of San Bernardino, California. He is also survived by his children, James Nelson of Tacoma, Washington, Alice "Kathy" Contreras and husband, Carl of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Michael Nelson and wife, Mary of Malaga, New Mexico, John "Jack" Hobbs III and wife, Cecilia of Odessa, Texas, and Jerald "Jerry" Hobbs Sr. and wife, Marcella of Claremore, Oklahoma, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3301 South Canal Street, Carlsbad New Mexico, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
