Robert Snow Obituary

Robert Walton Snow passed away in the company of his three children on Sunday, May 25. He was 82 and was a resident of Carlsbad, New Mexico, for 46 years.
Bob was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on July 17, 1925. He was the first child born to Roswell Perry Snow of Springfield, Massachusetts and Mary Elizabeth (Walton) Snow of Asbury Park. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers: Frank Perry Snow, Kenneth Wilbur Snow, and Albert Raymond Snow.
As a boy during the Great Depression, Bob's family moved often. He graduated from high school in Allentown, PA. Bob entered Muhlenberg College with the NROTC program and later earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific on the heavy cruiser, USS Fall River. Bob was a regular at annual reunions of those who served on that ship.
In 1949, Bob married Margery Mathews Day of Allentown. An engineer job at a Proctor and Gamble plant took them to Illinois where Bob earned an MBA in the evenings at the University of Chicago. P&G job transfers next led to Cincinnati, OH and Lexington, KY.
In 1962, now with three children, Bob came to Carlsbad to stay. He was the maintenance superintendent at Potash Company of America. Later, PCA was bought by Ideal Basic, then Lundberg, before becoming Eddy Potash and now Intrepid. Bob retired as the Plant Manager of Eddy Potash.
Bob was an Eagle Scout. Family members over three generations have followed his lead, including eight (so far) that are also Eagle Scouts.
Bob volunteered in Carlsbad in many ways over the years: Scouter - Community Theater - First Presbyterian Church - Society of Mining Engineers – various advisory and ad hoc committees – and the Downtown Lions Club.
Bob was among the founders and leaders of a grassroots effort that became "Citizens for Public Schools." Later, Bob served on an advisory team to consider the future of the Walter Gerrell's Civic Center and then was on the board of directors
The Downtown Lion's Club has been a key focus of Bob's civic efforts since retirement. He was often seen around town with fellow Lions putting out flags on holidays or distributing flowers – all to raise funds to fight blindness and to help people worldwide to enjoy better vision. Last year, he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
Bob married Margaret Elaine (Seery) Brininstool in 1975. Before retiring, Margaret was a teacher and an administrator in Carlsbad Public Schools. They would have been married for 33 years this June. Bob is survived by Margaret and their combined posterity who now number 26 and who reside in ten different states.
The seven children of Bob and Margaret are as follows: William Frank "Bill" Snow of Albuquerque NM, Bruce Robert Snow (& Cathy) of Collierville TN, Nancy Snow Dugger (& Charlie) of Carlsbad NM, Cecil Allen Brininstool (& Debbie) of Flower Mound TX, Charles Morman Brininstool (& Cindy Titus) of Mesa AZ, Michael Ross Brininstool (& Stacey) of La Jolla CA, and Phillip John Brininstool (& Lisa) of Reston VA.
17 grandchildren (& their spouses) are as follows: Emily Snow Bylund (& Kevin), Isaac William Snow (& Becca), Jonathan Robert Snow (& Whitney), Matthew Walton Snow, Sarah Gwynn Snow, Teresa Marie Snow, Erin Dugger Hicks (& Kyle), Vicki Dugger Cirbo (& Justin), Charles Edmond "Chip" Dugger Jr, Andrew Allen Brininstool, Allison Jannell Brininstool, DeEtte Brininstool Sallee (& "JB"), Ryan Andrew Brininstool, Russell Scott Brininstool, Ian Ward Brininstool, Taylor Rice Brininstool, and Stephanie Jo Brininstool.
Two great-granddaughters are Grace Abigail Bylund and Bryce Haley Hicks.
On Thursday, July 3rd, a memorial service will be held at 10 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 309 W. Shaw St, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM, Thursday at Carlsbad Cemetery, new section. Military Honors will be provided by Carlsbad Veteran's Honor Guard.

Mr. Snow,
Sir, I would just to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II aboard the USS Fall River(CA 131). And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Sincere condolences from a Carlsbad school's classmate and friend of Nancy and Mike and, it appears, still a neighbor of the family after all this time. Although I've not seen Bob since leaving Carlsbad years ago, I nonetheless wish to express that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I worked with Bob at Lundberg and will always remember him signing his notes to me for payroll, "T-Bob" I just always thought it was funny. He was a really sweet guy. Then I had the pleasure of working with Margaret at the Schools Admin office. What a wonderful couple. Please accept my deepest condolences.
