James Hoblyn Obituary

Jim Hoblyn of Ansley, Neb., passed away peacefully at CHI hospital in Kearney on Oct. 29, 2024.

James "Jim" Wayne Hoblyn was born Oct. 31, 1948, in Broken Bow to Harry Ray and Delpha Delores (Madsen) Hoblyn. He was known as the "Halloween baby."

He attended Harris Country School through eighth grade. After that, he went to high school in Ansley. Upon graduation, he attended computer school in Denver, Colo., and Kearney State College. After college, Jim returned to Ansley to farm and raise cattle.

Jim married the love of his life, Pat Helberg, on Aug. 20, 1972. Two daughters were born to this union, Kelli and Katie. Jim and Pat had two grandchildren, Morgan and Marty Bauder. Jim called them the M&M kids.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ansley, and he served on the Algernon Township Board.

Jim loved the land and his cattle. He liked to farm, especially liking the smell of freshly tilled earth in the spring and seeing the new corn coming up. He liked to check cows, take out salt and check water for the cattle. He loved seeing those newborn calves in the spring.

Jim could visit with anyone. You could find him leaning over a pickup box or leaning on a tractor tire visiting with a neighbor. He liked the rural life – a life well lived.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Delpha Hoblyn; in-laws Stan and Donna Helberg; and brother Bob Hoblyn.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Pat of Ansley; daughters, Kelli (Ryan) Bauder of Scotland, S.D. and Katie Hoblyn of Ansley; grandchildren Morgan and Marty Bauder of Scotland, S.D.; sisters Dianne (Art) Anderson of Broken Bow and Dee (Mike) Krantz of Ansley; brother-in-law Vaughn (Karen) Helberg of Lincoln; sisters-in-laws Nancy Hoblyn of York, Nancy (Larry) Miller of Lemoyne and Diane (Ken) Mahoney of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ansley Community Church in Ansley. Burial followed in the Ansley Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Nov. 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ansley Community Church.

Memorials are suggested to Ansley Fire & Rescue.

Govier Brothers Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com.
