Earl Snoddy Obituary

Earl B. "E.B." Snoddy of Albemarle County passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care in Albemarle County. He was born December 24, 1944 in Buckingham County, Virginia, a son of the late Clinton Earl Perkins Snoddy and Martha Mariah (Miller) Snoddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Dave Snoddy; a sister, Mildred Muth; and one grandson, Jacob E. Baber. E.B. had worked his whole life. As a teen, he drove a school bus while still in high school, worked at the local feed store, and worked the family sharecropping farm. As an adult, he became a police officer on the Charlottesville City police force and, for a time, worked with his brother Clyde as a police officer. He left the city police force and moved to the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) as an enforcement officer. He stayed with the ABC for the remainder of his 38-year law enforcement career. He was a member of several area Baptist churches and most recently was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Albemarle County. He was a member of several area Baptist churches and most recently was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Albemarle County. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on anything mechanical- especially tractors -gardening and giving away the harvest to family and friends. Lately, he wasn't able to garden. He would buy flats of tomatoes and give them to family and friends. He loved gathering friends and family in one place to talk and laugh together. He would have a niece or daughter-in-law play the piano so he could sing hymns. He loved a good bowl of ice cream, with or without cake. He loved making apple butter in the fall with all of his family, and as many friends as he could get to come help; all while he supervised. He loved calling you and arranging a ride in the country; mainly, to see part of Buckingham, or parts of a back road you hadn't seen before. He loved people and people loved him. Finally, he loved being a granddaddy. So much so, that everyone called him his granddaddy name: "BB". His wife, sons, daughter, grandchildren, he became our BB. BB loved babies, holding babies and seeing babies. And babies loved him. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty; two sons Thomas Snoddy, and Howard Snoddy and his wife Patricia; a daughter, Heather Rogers and husband Matt; four sisters, Rachel Mays, Mary Cline, Carolyn Monger, and the Reverend Lisa Meyers; sister-in-law Margaret Snoddy; brother-in-law Reverend John Muth; 6 grandchildren, Hannah, Mariah, Henry Snoddy, and Abigail, Will, and Hunter Rogers; and a number of other extended family members including nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday August 15, 2025 at Belmont Baptist Church by Pastor Tom Lambelet. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening August 14, 2025, at Hill & Wood Funeral Home Charlottesville. A special thank you to the Nursing team on UVA 4West who cared for EB in his last days.
