John Edward Bell III

John Edward Bell III, 54, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on October 29, 2025, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. Born on September 2, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee, John was the son of Eddy and Jean Bell and Brenda Hooks Johnson. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his best friend, Christopher Chad Waters. John dedicated his life to serving others. Following his service in the United States Navy during the Gulf War and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, he built a successful career in the mortgage industry spanning more than two decades. For 15 of those years, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the VA Loan Guarantee Program, helping countless veterans achieve the dream of home ownership. A devoted husband, father, and friend, John was known for his generous spirit, humor, and zest for life. An avid sports fan, he never missed a game day and could light up any room with his laughter. He believed deeply in savoring every moment with the people he loved most. John is survived by his wife, Melissa Bell, his daughter, Ainsley Bell, and his in-laws; Bob and Brenda Tranbarger. He also leaves behind his honorary sons; Caleb, Andrew and Cameron Waters, and Austin Statham and his honorary daughter, Mary Caroline Bowman. He is also survived by his brother, Ryan Bell; sisters, Katie Hancock and Kristin Everheart; and his lifelong friend , Jeffery Bolla. John will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Kenzie and Bruce, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the ICU staff and Transplant Team at UVA Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion. Services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Galilee United Methodist Church, located in Sterling, Virginia from 2:00-3:00pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Trump National Golf Club, located in Potomac Falls, Virginia from 3:30-6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UVA Health Foundation, designated to the Organ Transplant Center.
