Nimrod Clark Obituary

At the age of 99, with the assurance of his faith and with the Grace of God, Nimrod "Rod" Clark has gone home. With the exception of his tour with the Marines, he lived his life in North Garden and Charlottesville. He grew up on the family farm, attended Red Hill School, earned a Purple Heart on Iwo Jima, and graduated from the University of Virginia. He worked at State Farm Insurance in claims and as Regional Personnel Manager. He enjoyed the outdoor life: golfing, hunting, fishing, camping and, in later years, raising cattle. He was gregarious, making friends easily. He is survived by his son David (Nancy); four grandchildren: Becky (Russell), Ben (Maggie), Andy, and Lindsey; and seven great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Gloria Purvis, and son Michael. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Trinity United Methodist Church, the North Garden Volunteer Fire Company or the Cove Garden Ruritan Club. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26 at the Riverview Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 27, 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church on Plank Road in North Garden The family begs people not to wear colognes or any scents; Dave is severely allergic to them.
