Richard Curnish Obituary

Richard "Rick" Vincent Curnish, of Charlottesville, Va. passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at the age of 63. Throughout his illness, he never let the pain define him and gave a most courageous fight in his last days. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Rodion Curnish; paternal grandparents William & Bertha Curnish, his mother Barbara May; and maternal grandmother, Kathryn Shorey. He is survived by his sisters, Tamara Murray, and her husband Todd; Barbara Dudley, and her husband Kevin; and nephews and niece, Ben Murray, Will Murray, Libby Elgin, Aaron Dudley, Alex Dudley, and great-nephew Camron Dudley. Richard was a loving son and brother who deeply valued his independence. His humor and gentle smile were contagious. His ability to remember events and people he met along the way was extraordinary. Happiness for him was people watching, bike riding, nurturing his vegetable gardens, surf fishing at the beach, snow skiing, and caring for a beloved family dog "Bea". He was also an avid collector of matchbox cars and loved repurposing bicycles. After receiving his undergraduate degree in business from the University of Virginia, Richard meddled with various jobs. He particularly held fond memories of working for a moving company in Florida during the day and spending time on the beaches in the evenings. A graveside service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests making a memorial contribution to the SPCA of Charlottesville or American Cancer Society, in honor of Richard's memory. Condolences can be made on the tribute wall at www.hillandwood.com.
