Geneva Mae McCauley Fisher passed away on Dec. 28, 2022. Born June 16, 1924, in Harrison County to Walter Henry and Flossie Mae McCauley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, Harold Dwight Fisher, of Dayton, OH, her husband of 19 years, James Thomas Wornall, their daughter, Anna Owens Wornall Mann, a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Russell Stephens, and a brother and sister-in-law, James Lewis and Lois McCauley, all of Cynthiana, KY.
She is survived by her son, Edward Thomas "Butch" Wornall; grandchildren, Susan Wornall (Rubin) Wiley, Leslie Wornall (Steve) McGraw, Whitney (Jerome) Turner, Carrie Mann, James Mann; great-grandchildren, Chloe Fryman, Isaiah Mann, Cynthia Velazquez, Joan Dolf, Aron Lukins, Joseph Fuson, Jalyn Barnes, Kinsley Turner; great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Lukins, Adyen Lukins, Mila Mae Velazquez, Miyu-Nicole Kvala, and Alexander Himes.
Geneva graduated from Buena Vista High School in Harrison County and attended Spencerian Business College in Louisville. Geneva wore many hats during her 98 years. During World War II she traveled with her husband James. They lived in Arizona, Kansas, Idaho and Washington state, finally settling in Cynthiana where they raised two children. Geneva used her office skills to work at the Cynthiana Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Income Life Insurance Co., Dixie Tobacco Warehouse Offices, and Farmers National Bank. She and her husband also owned and operated the J & G Drive-In Restaurant on Route 27, near Cynthiana.
Geneva was the first women to solo pilot an airplane in Harrison County, an important accomplishment in her life. In 1963 Geneva began a new chapter in life, remarried and moved to Dayton, OH. Her husband Harold was a postal employee and she worked at the Brainard Construction Co. while volunteering at a local nursing home. She received clinical pastoral education at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, OH where she was Staff Chaplain when she retired. She worked closely with families of open-heart patients, giving reports from the operating room to them during surgery and conducted memorial services and funerals for families and friends.
After her husband Harold died, she moved to Lexington and resided at Hartland Hills Retirement Community. Geneva says that God has blessed her life in so many ways and Hartland Hills was always there for her. She enjoyed her many friends, held chapel services and served as resident ambassador becoming irreplaceable as a friend to all where she resided until her death. She was also a volunteer for the Hope Center. Geneva always believed; "the best is yet to come."
Geneva was an elder at Centerville Ohio SDA Church and at her death a member of the Lane Allen SDA Church in Lexington.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Ware Funeral Home by Andrew Schmidt with visitation. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
