Died: May 17, 2015; in Geneva, IL
Daniel N. Rubel, Ph.D., age 87, of St. Charles, formerly of DeKalb, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
He was born on September 15, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Nicholas and Edith (Behr) Rubel.
Daniel served our country in the United States Coast Guard in World War II. He received his Masters of Science degree from Wayne State in 1959 and his Ph.D from the University of Michigan in 1964. He was a geologist and taught at Northern Illinois University. He was an avid reader and loved the outdoors; he especially enjoyed growing tomatoes and red roses. He was a caring father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, B. Anastasia (Paul) Rubel Cyr of Colorado, Sarah L. (Andy) Totman of Geneva, Nick D.(Candy) Rubel of Texas, and Major Dan N. (Rita) Rubel Jr. of Florida; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Douglas (Carlotta) Rubel of Florida; former wife Glorya; and many dear family and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Fred (Velma) Bazhenow.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva. Prayer and farewell will include full military honors at 3:00 at the same location. Interment will be held privately.
