Daniel Ryan Obituary

Daniel J. Ryan
Born: April 5, 1954
Died: January 9, 2023
Daniel J. Ryan (Dan) died at his home in Sycamore on January 9, 2023, losing a brief struggle with cancer. He was born and educated in Columbus, Ohio. Dan loved dogs, traveling, movies, and British humour. He enjoyed woodworking, inventing, and solving puzzles both recreationally and in his professional life as an electrical engineer who worked at The Ohio State University ElectroScience Laboratory, Texas Instruments, Northern Illinois University, and
Videojet Technologies.
He is survived by his cherished wife Jodell (Jody) and dog Patsy, brother Thomas (Jacqueline) Ryan, sisters Carolyn (Peter) Hendey and Cynthia (Steven) Mygrant, mother Elizabeth Ryan, friends, co-workers, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father (Donald).
A quiet and unassuming man, his humble, courteous, and gentle manner sometimes obscured qualities such as his deep compassion, wit, and wisdom, which surfaced only when he chose to reveal them. Dan would ask that you spread kindness and live your life with no regrets. Donations in his memory may be made to the Barn on Baseline in Genoa, Illinois, or the charity of your choice.
"You can shed tears that he is gone or you can smile because he has lived" (David Harkins); Dan (a.k.a. "Doctor Expressway" or "Handy Dan") would want you to choose to smile in his memory.

Dan and I were very good friends in the late 1970s when we shared an office in graduate school at The Ohio State University ElectroScience Laboratory, where he met and wed our co-worker, the lovely and charming Jody Newman Ryan.

Dear Jody, We will never forget that you and Dan traveled to Ireland for our wedding. It has been awhile since we all were together; however, the memories make us smile. We hold you in our hearts.

Jody,
I cannot say how much I will miss Dan. He had the greatest smile, and a wry sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ruth and I enjoyed our get togethers with you at The Shaw Festival and hearing Dan´s insights (sometimes rye) on the productions. Our deepest condolences.

I only met Dan a time or two and he was such a gentleman. Jody loves him dearly.

Jody always talked about you so fondly. So happy we met over an Italian dinner in Glen Ellyn. I chose to smile because you lived.

We are so very sorry Jody. Dan was smart, funny, loyal and so many wonderful attributes but most of all he was kind. His brother Tom and I will miss him more than I can say.
