Evanthia N. Matarangas, 82, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Thursday, February 28, 2019, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.

She was born January 25, 1937, in Greece, the daughter of Panagis and Evelini (Korresi) Zapantis, Evanthia married Nikolaos D. Matarangas on September 25, 1959 in Greece.

Evanthia was a homemaker and member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in DeKalb.

She is survived by her husband, Nikolaos; four children, Dan (Pam) Mataragas, Vivian (Victor) Ozcanli, Pete (Meropi) Matarangas, Niki Matarangas; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Mataragas, Michael (Heather) Mataragas, Evanthia (Taylor) Martin, Danny Ozcanli, Alexa Ozcanli, Evanthia Matarangas, Nitsa Matarangas, Spiro Matarangas; four great-grandchildren, Pamela, Oran, Elizabeth, and Daniel.

She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 320 S. 2nd St. in DeKalb, with Fr. Andrew Karamitos officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a Trisagion Service at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Evanthia N. Matarangas Memorial Fund, addressed to the Matarangas Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
