Glen Floyel Obituary

GLEN MARK FLOYEL
Born: October 12, 1952
Died: August 5, 2025
Glen Mark Floyel, 72, of Cortland, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
He was born October 12, 1952, at Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Charles and Ruth (Hayden) Floyel. Glen grew up in the Berwyn and Cicero areas and graduated from Morton West High School in 1970. He was a member of the Liberty Motorcycle Club (MC) with a group of his friends from that area. Glen managed a Dunkin Donuts in Chicago, where he met Diane Brown. Glen and Diane were married on October 6th, 1984, in Chicago, IL. In 1984, they moved to Cortland, Illinois. They purchased a Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store located in DeKalb, IL. Glen and Diane spent many years operating the ice cream shop, while raising their two children, David and Sarah. After selling the Baskin Robbins, Glen began working for the United States Post Office. He was a rural carrier, out of the Maple Park Post Office. Eventually, Glen & Diane purchased a home in DeKalb. Glen took great pride in being a homeowner and spent many hours maintaining the yard and the swimming pool. Both were kept meticulous! After selling their home, Glen moved back to Cortland where he spent his remaining years. He was able to retire from the Post Office and then became an active member of the United Methodist Church in Cortland.
Aside from his career, Glen enjoyed spending time with friends in Maple Park, most notably at the American Legion, in which Glen helped out behind the bar and with events (Fish Fry, Breakfast, etc…). He was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He rarely missed a game on the TV. Glen had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling 'the joke of the day'. He will be missed by everyone that had a chance to know him.
He is survived by his wife Diane; his children David (Jamie) and Sarah (Dave Westlake), his grandchildren: Mary, Penelope, Jakob, Cecilia, Ezra, Abby, Norah, and Vaughn, and sisters Gale Floyel and Wendy (Frank Falada) Floyel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Floyel Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
