Gregg Fieffer

Age 55, a resident of De Kalb, formerly of Matteson, San Diego, and Chicago, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019. Loving brother of Laurie (Edward Parks) Fieffer; cherished uncle of Stephen and Jonathan Fieffer and dear brother-in-law of Kelle Fieffer. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Millicent Fieffer (Dahlstrom) and brother David Fieffer. Gregg attended Northern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, and a Masters of Business Administration. He briefly worked in the healthcare and food service industries, and spent most of his career employed by the Northern Illinois University. Gregg enjoyed reading, movies, and the outdoors, including kayaking, hiking and biking. He was an active member of the Kish Bike and Rec Club. Gregg also loved to travel and explore new places, he thought nothing of hopping into his car and taking off for a destination he had read something about or that had a historical significance, along the way stopping at restaurants, high end and dive, to experience local cuisine. A memorial service for Gregg will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations to Kish Bike and Rec Club, www.facebook.com/KishBikeandRecClub/, Fixin' Feral Felines, fixinferalfelines.org, American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or American Lung Association, www.lung.org would be appreciated.

So sorry to the family of Gregg as I learn of his passing. He and I met during one of the bike rides that Kish Bike and Rec had. Only later did I learn that we both worked at NIU. He always found time to stop and chat about the latest bike ride or adventure. Blessing to his family.

Gregg and I were not as close as we should have been, but he was never far from my thoughts. We shared a special connection in that we were born the same day - April 7. We had our love of cats, foreign languages, history and spicy food in common as well. It didn't matter how much cayenne pepper I put in a dish, he would say it needed something and add more cayenne pepper. He would e-mail me questions concerning his beloved little family of kitties and i would give him the best information I had. My funny, gentle cousin, I will miss you greatly and I mourn the close friendship we should have had.

So sorry to hear of Gregg's passing. He had such a kind heart and gentle soul. I worked with Gregg off and on when he was in the budget office and intermittently in the Controller's office at NIU. My Motorcycle organization supported a bicycle run that he participated in a few years. He always looked so happy and it spread to everyone around him. My heart goes out to all of his close friends and family in their time of sorrow. Please know he will not be forgotten by those that worked with him. God Bless...

I never met Gregg, but heard many wonderful things about him through my cousin April Novak and her son Greg Novak. I came to find out that Gregg was a cat lover, as I am, and that he was the kind of person who would go above and beyond for a friend. May he rest in peace.
