Heidi Sweeney, 50, of Sycamore, IL, died Monday, August 18, 2025, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL.
Born December 31, 1974, in DeKalb, the daughter of Terrell Poe and Deborah Bennett, she attended Genoa schools and Graduated from Genoa-Kingston high school in 1993. Heidi married David Sweeney on April 19, 1997 in Genoa, IL.
Heidi loved to travel and preserve memories through scrapbooking. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and liked watching musicals. Above all, she had a deep love for animals. She was a fierce defender of all living creatures and loved her family without limits. Her humor and smile were loved by all who knew her and her laughter brightened up many family gatherings.
Heidi is survived by her husband, David Sweeney; two children, Oliver Sweeney and partner (Ollie) And Tristan Sweeney and partner (Spencer Homrighausen); mother, Deborah Bennett; sister, Amanda (Reid) Grossen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Terrell Poe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to Oaken Acres Wildlife Center, 12140 Aldrich Rd., Sycamore, IL 60178, oakenacres.org.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 23, 2025, Crosswind Community Church, 13100 Cherry Rd., Genoa, IL 60135 with visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

I did not know Heidi but I deeply appreciate that she named my wildlife center, Oaken Acres, for her memorial donations. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. Here's a photo of our resident coyote SASSY ..... for Heidi.
