Died: April 30, 2015; in Sycamore, IL
John W. Schaffner, 93, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at his home in Sycamore.
He was born in DeKalb on November 18, 1921, and was the son of George Peter and Emma (Nagel) Schaffner. He married Lois L. Nelson on March 13, 1948, in DeKalb. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII.
John worked at General Electric for over 30 years, in addition to working for Hampson's Florist and was a founding member of the Kishwaukee Archery Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Wendy Corona (Luis) of CA; two sons, Dennis (Connie) of Sycamore and Jeffrey (Sheryl) of FL; one granddaughter, Shannon Pecikonis (Jason) of CA; one grandson, Elliott Corona of CA; one great granddaughter, Lily Pecikonis of CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents; brothers, George "Buster" and Clifford; and one step brother, Robert Walsh.
His Visitation will be on Thursday, May 7th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bradley Reardon officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery with military rites.

We are deeply saddened to hear of your loss. John and Lois were our family's closest friends and they were the finest people I ever knew. The Schaffner family will always be in our hearts and prayers. I thank them for the many wonderful memories especially our road trip to California in 1960.

Dear cousins Wendy, Dennis and Jeff,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad has been a part of your lives for a long time. It must be hard to let go. I have many fond memories of Johnny from my family's visits to Sycamore during my childhood. I was pleased to have seen him and visited with him just a few years ago. He hadn't changed. Ken and I are very sorrow for your loss. We worked with John at GE for many years and have lots of memories.We will miss our gathering at garage sales this summer...and the talks and laugh's we would share about all the bargains we found.
