Linda Eichhorst Obituary

Linda Christine Eichhorst
Born: March 24, 1952 in Hinsdale, IL
Died: November 2, 2025 in Sycamore, IL
Linda Christine Eichhorst 73, of DeKalb passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Grand Victorian of Sycamore. She was born March 24, 1952, in Hinsdale, IL and was the daughter of Glen O. and Margaret K. (Urbanski) Eichhorst.
Linda graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1970 before going on to earn her bachelor's degree in sociology, with a minor in accounting at Northern Illinois University. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to her work and her community. She served as the business manager for St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb, and shared her talents with Seymour of Sycamore, Northern Illinois University as a staff accountant, and ITT Holub Industries.
A devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Linda lived her faith through service and compassion. She had an adventurous spirit; she loved riding motorcycles and even took to the skies for a once-in-a-lifetime skydiving experience. Linda found joy in being involved and giving back wherever she could. She taught motorcycle safety courses, helped hard of hearing NIU students learn to drive, coached Steven's youth basketball teams, served as the beloved Girl Scout "cookie mom" for Kristen's Troop, and coordinated uniforms for AYSO soccer. Later in life she was deeply interested in genealogy, learning about her family's past, and helping others to do the same. Linda was also a lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan that loved listening to games on the radio and going to Wrigley Field.
Linda's life was defined by her generosity, enthusiasm, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.
Survivors include; son Steven Tomanek of Oswego, IL and daughter Kristen Tomanek of Sycamore. Brother; Larry (Debbie) Eichhorst of Tyngsborough, MA, nephews; Alex and Matthew Eichhorst. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with The Very Rev. Kenneth Anderson officiating. Burial will be immediately following the mass at the Columbarium at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html. Cremation rites and arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115.

I'll never forget Linda's generosity and willingness to open her home to this annoying kid. She taught me to play my first computer game (Sabotage), fostered my love of film score (with records of John Williams' Star Wars), and had a joy-filled laugh that will echo in my memory from when The Bears actually did well. How fitting that she left us on the Feast of All Souls. Please accept my deepest sympathies, and know that I'm praying for you all. With humblest love and gratitude for the memories,

Steve and Kristen, I'm so sad to see this news this morning. I will always remember all the fun times we had together watching the Bears games! And I was glad I got to visit with Linda at the house not too long ago. We had some wonderful conversations about genealogy and all the work she did logging grave stones in the area. Losing Mom is the hardest thing I've been through so please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your mom. Sending prayers for the family. Love, Chrissie
