Linda Hartlep Obituary

Linda Hartlep

Linda Hartlep, 104, of Sycamore, died Sunday, April 15 at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.

Linda was born in Ynysddu, Wales of the United Kingdom, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Norgrove) Lawrence. She married Edward M. Mogford on August 30, 1937. During World War II, Edward was a medic in the Royal Army and spent 3 years as a Japanese prisoner of war and during this time, Linda drove an ambulance in the streets of Birmingham, England assisting people from the bombings of Germany. Upon Edward's return from the war, they started their family of two daughters and then immigrated to the United States in 1950. They settled in Tinley Park, IL with other members of her family that had come to the U.S. earlier. After Edward died in 1956, she started a daycare center and then in 1962 moved her 2 daughters to Crescent City, IL. She married Robert Hartlep in 1969 and he died in 1975. Linda loved her native country of England and cared deeply for her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Roma (Jim) Cary of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Brenda (Allen) Dietz of Clare, IL; her grandchildren, Todd Cary, Chad (Lynn) Cary, Steve (Angela) Dietz, Dawn Dietz, and April Cary; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nora Dunn; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews both in the United States and England.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Mogford; husband, Robert Hartlep; brothers, Leonard Lawrence and Robert Lawrence; sisters, Mary Wesoloski and Roma Wage.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 19, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave. Sycamore, IL 60178. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 20, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 206 Somonauk St. Sycamore, IL with Father James Clement officiating. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday at Tinley Park Memorial Cemetery next to her first husband, Edward.

Memorials can be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church in care to the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
