LLOYD E. LARSON JR.
Born: August 13, 1934
Died: March 27, 2026
Born in 1934, in Nebraska, in the midst of the Great Depression, Lloyd Larson Jr. began life with very little to his name. Unable to continue on the farm they owned in Nebraska, the family moved to DeKalb where Lloyd Sr. began work as a supervisor on the farm of a friend.
Lloyd Jr. was raised on the farm in the Illinois heartland but when the time came, he chose to leave the farm for the city and never went back to farming. Lloyd enlisted in the Air Force where he hoped to fly after his training.
When the doctor on base found out that he suffered from asthma he was informed that he could never qualify to be a pilot. Lloyd was disappointed but served the rest of his time, was honorably discharged, and went to college where he explored becoming a minister.
Not long after that he transferred to Northern Illinois University where he excelled in business studies.
While in an elective art history class he met a beautiful blond who looked a lot like a young Rosemary Clooney. She helped him get through the art class and they fell in love. They were married on a sweltering day in August and settled in Rockford IL.
Lloyd began his new job straight out of college, working for Sundstrand Corporation, as a business manager. He continued to work for that same company until the day he retired as the Vice President in charge of operations.
Lloyd and Beatrice had two children, Kenneth (1963) and David (1965). After moving to Peru IL, they suffered the tragic loss of their son David who died suddenly during an operation when he was 4 years old. Shortly after that they moved to a small town in Southwestern Michigan.
Upon retirement Bea and Lloyd became "snowbirds", moving to Florida for half the year. They settled in a small city about an hour from Orlando where they enjoyed the mild winters away from the snow. Lloyd loved boating, so he sailed his pontoon boat on the lakes of Florida and the lake in Michigan.
They grew old together enjoying the company of their friends and serving God together in the Lutheran Church. Lloyd served as a leader and administrator in that Church for many years. Bea battled cancer for a time but lost the fight and passed away.
Lloyd enrolled in a counseling class to get help with grieving the loss of a spouse, while in the class he met a widow named Nancy. The two bonded and formed a strong friendship soon after which they married. They enjoyed life together into their 80's until Nancy also lost a battle with cancer.
Lloyd is survived by his son and his wife and their two adult children who all live in California.
Lloyd was 91 years young. He was a devoted husband and father who always had a knock for practicality. Lloyd was and will always be in our hearts and memories.
