Richard Raymond Davis
Born: April 25, 1930
Died: April 14, 2025
Richard Raymond Davis passed into Glory peacefully on April 14, 2025, in Dekalb, IL, surrounded by family.
Born on April 25, 1930, in Jackson, MI, Dick was the son of Harvie and Germaine Davis. Raised in Allendale, NJ, he later accepted a nomination to the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with the Class of 1953. He served three years as an Army officer in Germany before transitioning to a successful 32-year career as a computer engineer with IBM, holding positions in several locations, most notably in a post in the Netherlands.
In 1955, Dick married Betty Ann Davis, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage. They lived in Upper Saddle River, NJ, for 24 years before moving to Mahwah and eventually to Sycamore, IL. In New Jersey, Dick and his wife were long time members of Fardale Trinity Church where he used his talents in accounting and music to serve joyfully. After moving to Sycamore they faithfully attended First Baptist Church.
He always had a song in his heart, and even in his last week of life, he did not miss an opportunity to sing to the Lord. Additionally, Dick was well known for his love of photography and took many pictures on his travels in Europe. Dick had his ever-present Super-8 (and later video) cameras, and caught many poignant moments in the life of his family. Enjoying traveling in both the US and Europe, Dick and Betty Ann made maximum use of his two overseas career assignments to explore further. In retirement, Dick enjoyed exploring his creative side through art. His photos, paintings, and drawings remain treasured reminders of his God-given talents and continue to decorate the homes of his family.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Ann, and by their children: Dr. Steven (Carol) Davis, Douglas (Laura) Davis, Richard Mark (Lisa) Davis, and Suzanne (Frank) Heegaard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Davis, remembered always with love. 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren were additional blessings to Dick and his wife, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love, character, and devotion.
If Dick could talk to you now, he would tell you that there is life after death, and that each one of us will meet Jesus one day. In his later years, Dick devoted many hours committed to studying Scripture and praying for his family and friends. This became his daily calling, meeting with his Savior. In life, he longed for you to know the hope he had through the salvation of Jesus for your sins. In Glory, he longs to meet you there.
On May 31st, a visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, 530 W. State Street in Sycamore, IL at 1 pm, followed by a 2 pm memorial service and luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a new sound system at First Baptist Church are appreciated as Dick is singing a song, even now, to Jesus in Glory!
