Died: November 7, 2016
Robert Earl Petersen, passed away in his home on November 7, 2016 after a brief illness.
He was born to Anna and Charles Petersen in DeKalb, Illinois on April 4, 1928. He attended DeKalb high school where he played on both the football and basketball teams. After graduation he enlisted and served in the Navy during WWII.
He attended Colorado College where he met and married the love of his life, Doris. Shortly after graduation Robert and Doris moved to Rockford, Illinois where they lived and raised six children together. Robert went on to earn his Master's degree from Rockford College and became a teacher for Rockford District 205.
He is predeceased by his five brothers and sisters and his eldest daughter, Janie Petersen.
Robert is greatly loved and missed by his wife of 64 years, Doris; children, Daniel (Cindy) Petersen, Kristine (Andy) Voigt, Karen Alexander, Kathryn (Drew) Wickham, William (Sally) Petersen; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will remain "sweet-as-ever" to his family.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be a private gathering for immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of personal choice.
