Sanford J. Dean, 97, of DeKalb, died Thursday, January 24, 2019, at his home.
He was born on December 20, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of William and Mary (Armstrong) Dean.
Sanford married Betty Click on December 24, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio.
Sanford was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a professor of psychology at Northern Illinois University and chair of the department. He was a political junkie and liked to garden, knit, and bake pies. Sanford was a member of the American Psychological Association and a founding member of the American Psychological Society.
He is survived by his three children, Carol Jo Dean, Laura Peters and Michael Dean; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Joy; three nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and two brothers.
