Steven V. Voris, 71, of Shabbona, Illinois, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at his home. He was born April 17, 1948, in DeKalb, the son of Virgil L. and Mary Elizabeth (Nier) Voris. Steven married Marilynne Dvorak on August 26, 1972 at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb.
Steven graduated DeKalb High School Class of 1966. While attending DHS Steven had a passion for music and was in the Concert and Marching Bands and played the drums for "The Riversides". He enlisted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the 75th Ranger Regiment , 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. He worked at Commonwealth Edison from 1971-2002 and at MJ Electric and Intren until his retirement in 2015. Some of his positions included, Lineman, Project Manager, Work Planner, and Construction Superintendent. Steven was a member and dedicated leader at St. James Catholic Church in Lee. He was an active officer and financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus and Faithful Scribe for the Andrew D. Mitchell Assembly 215 Fourth Degree. Steven was known for his wisdom, knowledge, and reliability. Countless people sought his counsel. He was a generous and kind husband and father who always helped and guided his children.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynne; his children, Jennifer Voris, Katherine Voris, Marissa Voris, Andrea (Austin) Koenig, Steven Voris; sister, Sandra (John) Gunther; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 Pine St. in DeKalb, with Fr. Dean Russell celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in DeKalb, with Full Military Honors by DeKalb American Legion Post 66. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Spiritual Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.

I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing and his families loss. He was mine and my husband's neighbor for 10 years. He always helped us with things inside and outside of our home and would always initiate conversations and was always very kind. I will always remember him standing outside of where the fireworks were held taking donations and handing out fliers. He will be missed!! Jennifer Brower

So sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Really a good guy and very kind. When I moved to DeKalb in 1966 and joined the high school band Steve took me under his wing and made me feel welcome.

Steve sat next to me in many a class in school. He was always a kind and gentle soul. Although I haven't seen him in so many years, it grieves me much to hear of his passing. God bless you all.
