Ann Marie Atkinson, age 78, of Bourbonnais passed away Monday, November 10, 2025 at Bickford of Bourbonnais. She was born, the eldest of 7 children, on November 27, 1946 in Lafayette, IN, the daughter of Theo & Helen (Trader) Freeland. Ann married David Atkinson on June 29, 1968 in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Ann was a kindergarten teacher from 1968-1972 then worked in the Graduate School Office at Olivet Nazarene University from 1990-2012 in various positions. She was a member of the Kankakee Valley Audubon Society. Ann loved to travel. She traveled to all 7 continents, visiting over 75 countries. Ann faithfully raised her children to love the Lord while they were growing up.
She was a member of the College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, David Atkinson of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Anthony) Rogganbuck of Bourbonnais; one son, Bradley "Brad" (Tara) Atkinson of Owosso, MI; her siblings, Larry (Marcia) Freeland of Ft. Wayne, IN, David (Diane) Freeland of Kansas City, MO, Beverly (Martin) Clajus of Los Angeles, CA, Wanda (David) Lockwood of Wasilla, AK, and John (Debby) Freeland of Andrews, IN; and three grandchildren, Ashlyn Rogganbuck, Alayna Atkinson, and Willow Atkinson. Ann is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Delores Freeland.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, November 14, 2025 at College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Olivet Nazarene University Fund.
