Florence Nimz Obituary

Florence Nimz, 104, of Watseka, passed away Monday (Nov. 4, 2024), at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka.

She was born Oct. 18, 1920, in Pence, Ind., the daughter of Oval and Burness (Drollinger) Ping. She married Clarence W. Nimz on Sept. 13, 1939, in Peru, Ind. He preceded her in death March 14, 1998.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne Thomas, of Watseka, and Ellen (Rick) Beyer, of Paxton; two sons, Dr. Richard Nimz, of Floresville, Texas, and Robert (Linda) Nimz, of Battle Creek, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Erik (Kathy) Nimz, Jennifer (Jesse) Dominguez, Lezlie White, Gregg Thomas, Brian Thomas, Karen (Ron) Wall, Kim Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Angela Brandon and Scott Beyer; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ival "Jim" Ping; one sister, Lulabell Portwood; one son, William Nimz; and one grandson, Robert Nimz II.

She was a member of Watseka First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years. Florence was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Iroquois County Home Extension and was a 72-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Royal Chapter.

She worked for the City of Watseka and First Trust and Savings Bank for many years.

Florence enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a grand champion at the Iroquois County Fair for knitted afghan.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, until the 11 a.m. funeral service, both at Watseka First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Darla Holden will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Iroquois Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Watseka First United Methodist Church or Watseka Food Pantry.

Funeral arrangements are by Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.
