Genola Ann Chinn (née Ward), age 91, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born on February 6, 1934, in St. Anne, Illinois, Genola was the beloved daughter of the late Alvious Ward and Leotha (née Manny) Baker. Genola grew up and lived on her family farm in Momence, IL. She was truly a country girl at heart and loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was a Title One reading teacher at both St. Anne & St. George Elementary Schools for over 25 years. Genola taught countless children how to sound out words and excel at reading comprehension. Throughout her career she coached softball, volleyball, and was a strong advocate in the community for children's safety. Genola was the first female Elder of the St. Anne Presbyterian Church and was involved in setting up the Northlake Villa Senior Housing Apartments in St. Anne, IL. Genola loved the lake, camping with her family, beach vacations in Cancun, teddy bears, denim, and her cherry tomato garden. Though Genola enjoyed many things, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She made many lasting memories with everyone that knew her. Genola is survived by her loving children, Terry (Carol) Chinn, Cheryl (Ray) Laney and Gary (Peggy) Chinn; cherished grandchildren, Austin (Alexa) Chinn, Natalie (fiancé Allen) Chinn, Justin Laney, Josh Laney, Jessica (Michael) Baach, Michael Chinn, Cassandra Chinn and Kelly Chinn; and great-grandchildren, Chase Laney, Chloe Laney, Camilla Laney, Stevie Baach, Fletcher Baach, Grayson Chinn and Isla Chinn. Genola was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Chinn. Services for Genola will be privately held by her family.
