Ione Engleking Obituary
Ione A. Engleking, age 93, of Grant Park, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born June 9, 1932 at her home in Sumner Township, the daughter of Bernard & Hulda (Meisterling) Hamann. Ione married Mardele "Del" Engleking on August 8, 1954 in Grant Park.
Ione loved playing cards with her dear friends. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and crocheting. Ione was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She and her husband spent 17 years as snowbirds in Siesta Key, FL, where they made many friends. Ione loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching their activities. She volunteered at the Veterans Home, bringing them to church and helping set up Christmas trees. She was a loyal Grant Park sports fan. In later years, Ione enjoyed sitting on her front porch visiting with friends and neighbors, especially Josh across the street.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Grant Park, where she was also a member of the Women's Guild helping with funeral dinners.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Mardele "Del" Engleking of Grant Park; one daughter, Pamela (Steve) Lawrence of Venice, FL; one son, Greg (Lynn) Engleking of Manteno; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Katie), Mark, Joshua, Brandon (Stefanie), Kaylyn (Kevin), Rick (Cathy), and Ryan (Amanda); nine great-grandchildren, Sofia, Joseph, Qohelet, Salome, Oriahn, Mason, Sammy, Lily, and Tyler. Ione is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, June Jacobsen; and two brothers, Franklin Hamann and Sterling Hamann.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the 2 p.m. funeral service on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Grant Park. Interment will follow at Heusing Cemetery in Grant Park. A luncheon will be served in the Lange Fellowship Hall at St. Peter's United Church of Christ following the burial.
