Phyllis Manker Obituary

Phyllis Manker, 84, of Manteno, passed away Sunday (Aug. 20, 2023), in Wood Dale.

She was born Sept. 5, 1938, in Carbondale, the daughter of Joe and Virginia (Hampton) Craig. She married Clarence "Sonny" Manker on Oct. 3, 1964, in Kankakee.

Phyllis was a secretary for various schools in Kankakee School District 111 for 35 years and worked for the Kankakee State Hospital for 10 years.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, leader of United Methodist Women, and supported Alzheimer's support groups and Relay For Life.

Phyllis enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Paul) Colwell, of Phoenix, Cathy (Chuck) Walker-Martin, of Manteno, and Amy (Dan) Meyer, of Schaumburg; two sisters, Mary Ann (Don) Badgley, of Steelville, and Joey Gulley, of Pinckneyville; grandchildren, Eric Colwell, Corinne Walker, Brinna Walker, Sarah (Michael) Becker, Ellyse (fiance, Michael Basham) Walker, Nicholas Meyer and Emily Meyer; and a great-granddaughter, Eleanora Becker.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; a granddaughter, Rebecca Hamlin; and a brother-in-law, Dugan Gulley.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Brown-Jensen Funeral Home in Manteno. An additional time for visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, until the 11 a.m. funeral services at Grace Community United Methodist Church, Bourbonnais. The Rev. Steve Hudspath will officiate. Pallbearers will be Eric Colwell, Drew and Joe Gulley, Michael Becker, Michael Basham and Robert Bond. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Manteno.

Memorials may be made to Grace Community United Methodist Church, Bourbonnais, or the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral arrangements are by Brown-Jensen Funeral Home in Manteno.
