Sharon Brave

Sharon Brave, 84, of Chebanse, passed away Monday (Feb. 26, 2024), at her home in Chebanse.

She was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Kankakee, the daughter of Elmer and Ellen (Johnson) Peck. She married Jerrold Brave in Bradley, on April 4, 1958. He preceded her in passing May 22, 2023.

Surviving are her three children, Doug Brave, of Chebanse, Kelly (Mark) Nichols, of Clifton, and Kent Brave, of Chicago; two grandchildren, Heidi (Nolan) Bernard, of Kankakee, and Rachel (Tim) Basham, of Ashkum; four great-grandchildren, Camden Bernard, Cecily Bernard, Walter Basham and Weston Basham; brother-in-law, Larry (Judy) Brave, of Chebanse; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Jerrold, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Earl; and seven sisters, Ardell, Ada, Loretta, Vera, Olive, Donna and Betty.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Kankakee, where she served in many capacities, including: CMI Ministries, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, was a deaconess and served on the funeral dinner and bridal shower committees. Sharon also hosted Bible studies and was a prayer warrior. She loved cooking, baking and entertaining.

Cremation rites are being handled by Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Memorial visitation will be from noon on Friday, March 8, until the 2 p.m. memorial service, both at Immanuel Baptist Church in Kankakee. The Rev. Philip Gardner will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.
