Sylvia Bloomstrand Obituary
Sylvia Bloomstrand, 91, of Bourbonnais, peacefully entered Heaven on Monday (Sept. 5, 2022).
She was born Aug. 13, 1931, three minutes after her twin sister, Golda, in Anderson County, Kan.
Sylvia attended a one-room schoolhouse in rural Kansas, before graduating from Parker Kansas High School on May 19, 1949.
She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kan., on Oct. 20, 1951.
Sylvia completed LPN school and worked in a state hospital and a doctor's office before moving to Illinois.
In Illinois, she met Leslie "Buck" Schade. They were married at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kan., on Aug. 15, 1954. They became members of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Chatsworth, until Dec. 8, 1970, when they became members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth. They moved to Dwight, and became members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Oct. 27, 1986. Leslie preceded Sylvia in death Dec. 28, 1992.
Sylvia married Hartzell Bloomstrand on Feb. 12, 1994. They became members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dwight, on June 14, 1998.
They shared a love of horses and competed in shows and fairs throughout Illinois. Hartzell passed away Nov. 4, 2004.
Sylvia moved to Bourbonnais, in June of 2017. She transferred membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Kankakee, on March 29, 2018.
She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She studied Bethel Bible Series.
Sylvia loved reading, listening to music, crocheting and hosting family and friends.
Sylvia and Leslie had two children, Sylvia (Bill) Burger, of Bourbonnais, and Gary Schade (deceased). She had two granddaughters, Joann (Paul) Morgun, of Glen Ellyn, and Emily Weller, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Simeon and Claire Morgun.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her father, mother, one brother, two sisters and one son.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Jensen Funeral Home, Kankakee. An additional time for visitation will be from 10 am. Monday, Sept. 12, until the 11 a.m. funeral service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee. Immediately following the service, Sylvia will be laid to rest in Chatsworth-Charlotte Cemetery in Chatsworth.
