Eugene Robert "Bob" Carreras of Park Forest IL passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 24, 2021. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Carreras was born in New York City in 1931. After graduating in 1952 from Loyola University Chicago, where he set several school records in track, he joined the US Army and served in Germany. He returned home in 1957 and went to work as a trucker to support his growing family. Following a serious accident in 1971 that resulted in the loss of his left leg, he formed his own truck escort service for oversized loads, drove buses, taught truck driving courses at Olive-Harvey College, and worked for the Illinois Secretary of State Drivers License bureau. He owned and managed several businesses, including the Golden Point Restaurant in Harvey and Mr. C's Car Wash in Park Forest.

Over his long life, Bob Carreras touched many with his warmth, wisdom, and hospitality, and a deep baritone voice that was perfect for reading Twas the Night Before Christmas to his children and grandchildren, which he did annually. He enjoyed singing and acting in community theater and appeared in productions including The Sound of Music, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Oklahoma. He deeply valued family, community, and his Catholic faith.

Bob is survived by his cherished wife, Sharon, of Park Forest; and their combined 14 children: Annemarie Stein (David), Michael Carreras; William Carreras (Rhona); Robert Carreras (Lisa); Joseph Carreras (Diane); Teresa Anderson (Christian); Mary Cercone (Victor); Richard Carreras (Kelly); Sheila Brandson (Michael); Linda Carreras; Antoinette Houselog; Mary Mayo (Mark); Jo Ann Audo; and Susan Weisbond; 48 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Bob's beloved first wife Gloria, as well as his brother and sister, preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass will be held on Dec. 18 at 10:30 am at St. Irenaeus Church, 78 Cherry St. in Park Forest.

Hard to believe that just over 50 years have passed since Uncle Bob and I took a trip of a lifetime for me, in the spring of 1971. I got to ride in his truck for a week at the end on my freshman year in college from Park Forest to Baltimore. It was a special trip that we would never forget and I felt bonded us for a lifetime. Sorry, that the times being what they are today, kept me from your send-off. The family pictures are incredible. I will always love you and your entire family. Love, Roy 3rd

My dearest Aunt Sharon and cousins, In the vast expanse of time, life is short: even at 90 years of age. Uncle Bob, though, left a legacy that expands 3 generations in this current time and the impact of his life may live even further. He lived, he loved, and he created memories wherever he traveled. He made everyone feel as though they were the most special person in his life. He will surely be missed but the stories will go on for a long time. Uncle Bob's faith, endurance, and love are the hallmarks of his life. We loved him so much and my sympathy for your present loss is sincere but I know we will all be reunited with him one day and that is a promise in which to look forward. Love always,
Donna ~ Bob's niece
