Karen was born on September 9, 1951 to the late Gunnar Sorensen and Harriette "Lynn" Sorensen, née Smith. She was a strong, compassionate woman who always put others before herself. She graduated from the University of Illinois and retired after 25 years of dedicated service to Electro-Motive (GM) in La Grange. She is the proud mother of two daughters Brittney (Phillip) and Courtney Everett; loving sister of Jeffrey (June) Sorensen and Nancy Reiss; dear sister-in-law of Lynn (Jack) Skoczelas Fuller, Joyce (David) Wilbanks, and Robert Caponigri; adored aunt of Ryan (Jill), Nicole (Frank), Katie (Andrew), Sherry, Jennifer (Eric), Tracy (Shane), Matt, and Jason (Stacy); kind niece of Katy Hanson and Shirlie Sorensen; cherished cousin of Glenn, Deborah, Donna, Vicki, Julie, and Ken. Her passing was preceded by her parents; her brothers-in-law Joseph Reiss and Paul Skoczelas; and her uncles Viggo Sorensen and Bertram Hanson.

A family memorial gathering was held at Lawn Funeral Home in Orland Park on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Karen was laid to rest at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Orland Park. Donations made in her name to the Scleroderma Research Foundation (srfcure.org) are appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear this. Loved Karen. Every year she made me her favorite apple slices and brought to our department. She was such a great friend and colleague and she will be missed by many!!!! She always was so professional and such a hard worker and conscientious and loved her sense of humor. She made me laugh so much.
