Marjorie Leable Obituary

Marj Leable of Palos Heights IL passed away September 15, 2021. She was born March 21, 1947, the first of six girls on the family farm in Wadsworth, Illinois. She was among the first attendees of St. Patrick's Grade School. After graduating from Warren Township High School, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in English at MacMurray College.

Marj taught English for 32 years at Oak Lawn Community High School, including Honors and Advanced Placement English and American Literature. She was admired for her dedication to teaching and her talent for making displays of historical memorabilia relating to the literature. Many remember her quick wit and storytelling.

It was at Oak Lawn that Marj began lifelong friendships with her fellow teachers and their families. The group of friends had fun dining and traveling together. After retirement, she cherished their weekly breakfast get-togethers. Marj loved teaching, was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

She is survived by her sisters Kathleen Leable of Highland Park, IL.; Maribeth (Steve) Dalbec of Wadsworth, IL.; Lorraine (Jack) Grubaugh of Martin, TN.; and Marilynn Link of Gurnee, IL. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Leable. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Daniel Grubaugh (Kathryn Fallows) and Catharina Grubaugh of Philadelphia, PA; Aubrey Dalbec and David Dalbec of Eagle River, WI.; and Madeleine Dalbec of Wadsworth, IL.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Miss Leable. Such a Fantastic teacher, and even better person. Miss Leable helped me immensely in English. She didn´t just teach; she made class and school, enjoyable and fun! Miss Leable is sorely missed. .
May she rest in peace at the right hand of the Father.

Marj & I became friends working at Williams Sonoma & our friendship lasted long after we left Williams Sonoma. We come from different backgrounds, but we had the same sense of humor & we shared a love for food (esp. a great burger) & good restaurants. I miss her terribly. She was a dear friend & friends like her don't come along very often in your life.

Ms. Leable was an amazing instructor!!! I has here for AP English Honors in 1989/90. She brought baked goods for the class all the time! She was a a fabulous teacher and really encouraged my love of reading. She had some of us "silly string" Mr. O wearing paper bags as a disguise. She was clearly a prankster!! RIP!!!

Ms. Leable was a compassionate and dedicated teacher. She was extremely witty and could verbally spar with anyone many times putting us arrogant smart alecs in our place.

I am so sorry for your loss. Some of my happiest memories are at your farm when Margie and I were in St. Pat´s. I am so glad she had a good life. My best to all her family.
