Mary Bruni Obituary

88, a beautiful and vibrant wife, adored mother, loving grandmother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2017. Mary died as she lived, with grace, composure, and inner strength, a role model for us all. Her wit, personality, and radiant smile will be missed. Mary was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on March 3rd, 1929 to parents Vincenzo Bruni and Lucia Novelli. She graduated from Bloom High School in 1946 and received a nursing degree from the nursing school affiliated with Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago. She began working in 1949 as an ER and OR nurse at St. James Hospital before starting her family. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Tony to whom she was married for 49 years, and her brother Anthony. She is survived by her three children; Lenore, Marc (Mary), Todd (Nada), seven grandchildren; Adam (Meagan), Nathan (Katie), Ryan (Laura), and Sarah Bruni, Lauren Marciniak (Paul), Katelyn Navitskas (Brian), Lauren Elise Marek, six great-grandchildren; Aubree, Liam, Kaylee, Jaxon, Ava, and Hannah. After raising her family, Mary very much enjoyed her years as a volunteer at St. Margaret's Hospital in Dyer, Indiana. The Bruni family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Family Dental Clinic who cherished "Mom Mary's" kind and gentle presence there during her years abroad. Mom-you will live in our hearts. God bless you in heaven. All our love through eternity. A private service was held on December 2nd, 2017. Dear Lenora,
I was at Bloom during your years there and walked into the nurses'office one day when you were visiting with your Mom betw classes. You were both so kind to me & I want you to know how much your Mom helped me that last year. I knew I had Miss Mary to talk to during those dark days in my life and honestly dont think I would have made it without her excellent care, her genuine concern and wise council . I always walked out feeling better both physically and in my heart. My mother and I both spoke of her the day I graduated law school and I know she will be standing there right beside her grandaughter -so proud ! - at her graduation from medical school....love,

To the Bruni Family,
When my wife needed a private nurse after a complicated surgery your Mom was who she asked for . Mary drove over an hour every day to take care of her all through her recouperation. She was such an excellent R.N. and a wonderful lady whom we shall dearly miss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you ... Thank You Mary for guiding us through a difficult time. You gave my wife the strength she needed to heal .

Mary came to our home every day in the last weeks of my mother's life. Her quiet, calm, professional demeanor was such a comfort to my Mom and to us. We will never forget her.

I too was in Mary's class at JPSON and had the pleasure of meeting her Mom, Dad and brother then in his 2nd yr. at Notre Dame. Mary had it all - brains, beauty and such a close-knit family. Their love and devotion to one another was an amazing thing to witness. And now her grandaughter honors her legacy as an M.D. - How wonderful!
To the entire Bruni Family....a mass in remembrance of Mary will be celebrated by the Society of the Divine Savior in Rome.
God Bless you all
