Bernice McNutt Obituary

Bernice Imogene (Squyres) McNutt, 93, of Farmington, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015, in Farmington. She was born on Nov. 1, 1921, in Ireland, Texas, to Virginia Squyres.

She was a member of the Methodist church since she was 16. She joined the First United Methodist Church in Farmington in 1953. Bernice was active in church work, transporting elderly women to church, serving as a shepherd for many years, delivering tapes to shut-ins, and baking bread for doorsteppers and cookies for hospice. She was active in the United Methodist Women's group and served as treasurer for the Ada Burdick Sunday School class for 20 years. Bernice was an avid bridge player and gardener, and she loved to bake desserts. She was known for her heavenly dessert for Christmas.
Bernice was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ronnie E. Lee; her beloved aunt, Eloise Williamson; and her grandson, Virgil Thomas Francis. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Herb McNutt; daughters, Deb Badger (Dan Schroeder) of Ogden, Utah, Carlotta (Bill) Francis and Celeste (Kendall) Mann of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Mandy (Steve) Anderson of Las Cruces, Ashley (Mark) Buhman of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Veronica (Bobby) Wren of San Antonio, Carrie (Andy) Lake of Bayfield, Colo., Lacey (Todd) Berry of Vacaville, Calif., Jackson (Natausha) Calame of Hutto, Texas, and Amber Francis of Greenville, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kamryn, Kalia and Kelton Anderson, Justice, Cole and Sadie Buhman, Boston, Gracie, Madison and Annabelle Wren, Dillon Vrooman, Caleb and Whitney Lake, Oliver Berry, and Harmony and Emerson Calame.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington, with pastors Dave Blackwell and Rebecca Morgan. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
Donations may be made to Landsun Homes, 2002 Westridge Road in Carlsbad, N.M. 88220, or to the First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington.

Heaven has gained another special angel. Corky, you and your sisters are so blessed to have been given such an amazing woman for your mother. She has been such an inspiration and someone I have adored since I was a young mother. I will always cherish the delight I got when she would open the store and ask how her boy was and tell me how much she loved that kid when she referred to Sonny. The feeling was mutual and Sonny lights up when speaking of being a young man and working for her. I can attest she owned her own dress shop, she just never sold a thing and kept her merchandise in her house. I'm pretty sure she will meet me at the pearly gates wanting to know if I brought City Girl with me. I will always cherish her memory and celebrate a life well lived and one that touched everyone fortunate enough to have been touched by her.

I am grateful for this beloved Mother and Grandmother for raising one of my favorite Aunts - Celeste. She was always welcoming when we visited her home and treated us like one of her grandkids. My cousins cultivated many talents under her roof and with her guidance. Thank you Grandma McNutt and may Heavenly Father watch over your family in your absents.
