Evans Julianto Obituary

FARMINGTON
Evans Daniel Julianto
Nov. 11, 1921 - Oct. 25, 2009
Our dear father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, Evans Daniel Julianto, 87, of Farmington, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. He was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Pueblo Pintado. His clans are Naakai Diné (Mexican) born for Ashiihi (Salt People), Kinyaa aanii (Towering House) da bi cheii doo Ta neeszahnii (Tangle People).
Evans graduated from the Ute Vocational School in Ignacio, Colo., on April 29, 1943. He had many fond memories of school life, including farming, raising chickens under the Government Subsidy Program, playing basketball and teaching life skills as a Boy Scout Master.
After graduation, Evans went on an adventurous journey to Portland, Ore., to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Upon his return to Farmington, he worked in a garage until he heard that El Paso Natural Gas Company was seeking employees to lay a pipeline to California. So, off he went with a tent stuffed in the car and his family in tow. As it turned out, the work came to a halt in Kingman, Ariz., when one of the landowners would not allow the pipeline to be laid across his property.
Evans returned home and started working for Watson Trucking Co. Later, he was hired as a truck driver at American Tank & Steel, at the suggestion of his brother-in-law. He learned how to weld by welding scrap metal during his lunch hour and became a certified welder. After welding for 25 years, he retired from American Tank & Steel.
Evans was an avid outdoorsman. He took his family, neighbor's children and friends camping and fishing along the Colorado rivers. He also enjoyed gardening in his backyard.
Evans was a very kind and gentle person who always had something nice to say. He was light-hearted and found the humor in any situation. His love for life and his trademark smile will be missed by those who knew him well.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Laverna Julianto; his wife of 65 years, Della H. Harris; his half-sister, Nancy Dennison; and his grandsons, Jerad Evans Newman and Richard Todd English.
He is survived by a brother, John Julianto; daughters, Evelyn and husband, Robert Burch, of Ignacio, Colo., Gloria and husband, George Dennison, of Shiprock and Loretta Newman of Farmington; sons, William Julianto of Farmington, Orlando Julianto and wife, Deborah, of Farmington; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Alternative Choice Funeral Services, 804 N. Dustin Ave., in Farmington.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sat. Oct. 31, at the Aztec Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 100 Lobo St., a quarter-mile south of Aztec on Hwy. 550.
Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave., in Farmington.
A reception will immediately follow at the Navajo Prep cafeteria.
Arrangements are with Alternative Choice Funeral Services; (505) 326-3671.

There are no words to express the sadness and overwhelming grief on the loss of my father Evans. He loved life and his family. He treasured all his children, grandkids, and great grandkids. God blessed us with a loving and humorous father. I will cherish his smile and his thoughtfulness. I will miss our morning breakfasts and small talk. He loved to joke and be funny. I will miss him dearly. I love you Dad.

He was one of the fine memories I have of my years at American Tank - which was founded by my father. The family is in my prayers during this time. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. That alone is a tremendous heritage. I am a better person for having known and worked with him.
