Jose David Atencio

Jose David Atencio, 96, of Tierra Amarilla, died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, in Farmington. He was born March 19, 1914, in Dulce, to Manuel and Gabina Atencio.
Jose worked construction most of his life. He worked for New Mexico State Parks from 1978 to 1990, when he retired.
The loves of his life were his three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalia Atencio; his parents, Manuel and Gabina Atencio; brothers, Enriquez and Benjamin Atencio; and his sisters, Maxine Madrid, Celia Rivera and Mela Atencio.
He is survived by his son, Steve Atencio and his wife, Barbara; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Santo Niño Catholic Church in Tierra Amarilla.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Santo Niño Catholic Church.
Pallbearers Manuel Rivera, Stave Atencio Jr., Gilbert Rivera, Luis Atencio, Michael Atencio and Manuel Atencio.

He was my grandfather I went to see him one summer in New Mexico and it was fun peeling the chili peppers oh boy did it burn

I have just learned that My Grandpa David has passed . With a very
heavy heart I am deeply saddened . I have wonderful memories of
the times We shared . I will hold onto them memories forever.

We are so sorry for your lost..Mr. Atencio was a wonderful person. My family called him "Grandpa". He always welcome my kids with a great smile when he lived at Northgate Village Apt.#6102. He well be miss and our prayers go out to your family and love ones...Holly &family
