Morton Saul Lord

1936 - 2018

Morton Saul Lord, 82, of Farmington, New Mexico passed away August 7, 2018 in Farmington. Morton was born March 16, 1936 to parents Morris and Sadie Helfgott in Brooklyn, New York.
Mort received his Bachelor of Engineering Degree and then Masters of Science in Education. He taught math in New York before moving to New Mexico. Mort taught in Zuni, then at Navajo Methodist Mission where he was the junior class sponsor. He then moved to Ganado and taught at the Navajo Academy. Afterward he taught engineering and math at San Juan College and started the Computer Science Program.
Mort was active in the community working with the Opera organization and local community theater. He was a founding member of Theater Ensemble Arts. Mort enjoyed sharing his love for the theater with the young people in the community encouraging them to try acting, teaching them how to build sets and work backstage. He was an active member of the Northwest New Mexico Arts Council. Mort's greatest joy was his family and he loved to brag about them. He loved to travel, and his favorite way was by cruise ship. Mort lived a long and full life and will be remembered by many.
Morton is preceded in death by his daughter Sherri Sunshine Aguilar and parents Morris and Sadie Helfgott. He is survived by his loving wife Lee-anne Lord, sons; Jonathan Lord(Jennifer) and Marc Lord(Susanna), daughters; Robin Lord-Hass(Dale), Jill Cory and Francis Hinojosa(Eddie), grandchildren; Robert(Heather), Hillary, Brian, Behkie, Abigail(David), Benjamin, Nathan, Jacob, Nicholas, Matthew, Coen, Tristin, Wyatt, Gracella and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:30 am at Aztec Presbyterian Church.
