Evelyn Alexander

Evelyn Violet Alexander, 89, of the 400 block of Elliott Street, Edenton, N.C., died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Chowan Hospital. She was born in Chowan County, N.C., the daughter of the late Martha Owens and Charlie Wesley Alexander. She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Edenton, where she was organist and pianist and a member of the ladies auxiliary. Miss Alexander worked as a spinner at the Edenton Cotton Mill for more than 50 years. Miss Alexander is survived by one brother, the Rev. E.C. Alexander; numerous nieces and nephews and a great niece. She was predeceased by four sisters, Martha, Edith, Cassie, and Mamie; four brothers, Sam, Charlie, Jesse, and Alton and one nephew, Fred Ashley Jr. A celebration of Miss Alexander's life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Steve Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
