James Earl "Jim" Darnell Sr., 67, of 1511 W. Queen Street, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C. Mr. Darnell was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. and was the son of the late James W. and Wanda Darnell. A realtor with United Country Real Estate, he was a member of the NC State Alumni Association, the Edenton United Methodist Church, the NC Real Estate Commission, a past president of the Edenton Rotary Club, and a past Squadron Commander of the Sons of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Lea Darnell. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, DeAnna Hollowell Darnell; two daughters, Deena Darnell Shupe and husband, Robert, of St. Louis, Mo. and Donna Darnell Wright and husband, Thomas, of Asheville; a son, James Earl Darnell Jr. and wife, Liz, of Edenton; four grandchildren, McCartney and Inglis Towe and Trey and Hunter Darnell; a half-sister, Debbie Darnell of Winston-Salem; and a half-brother, Tommy Darnell of Orange City, Fla. A gathering of remembrance will be held on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. At other times friends may join the family at the home of his son, 1511-B, W. Queen Street, Edenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 40, P.O.
