Lucy Hampton McPherson, 90, of the 1700 block of Wesley Drive, Elizabeth City, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, March 20, 2013. A native of Gates County, she was the daughter of the late John Wade Hampton and Lucy Mayo Eure Hampton and the widow of Johnie Thomas McPherson. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, the TEL Sunday School Class, the WMU Action Ministry Group and the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary. She is survived by five daughters, Judith Jones of Elizabeth City, Martha Best and husband, James, of Roanoke Rapids, Carliss Gordon and husband, Frankie, of Elizabeth City, Karen Squires and husband, Paul, of Wilmington, and Barbara Toole and husband, James, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, John McPherson and wife, Charlene, of Elizabeth City; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her twin sister, Inez Sawyer; and a brother, John Leslie Hampton. A funeral service will be Friday, March 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Frankie Gordon, 503 Carter Drive, Elizabeth City.
