Walter Leonard
Walter Leonard, 90, of Elizabeth City, N.C., and formerly of Bethesda, Md., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Elizabeth City. Mr. Leonard was born in Germany to the late Hugo and Matilde Goldschmidt Wertheimer and was the widower of the late Grace Wolfsohn Leonard and Irene Gonzales Leonard. He formerly owned and operated the B.C.C. Piano Service of Bethesda and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army and later was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Band. Mr. Leonard is survived by a daughter, Jan Riley and husband, Fred, of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren, Mike Riley, Jennifer R. Swanson and Julie R. Schatz; two great-grandchildren, Riley Schatz and Miriam Schatz. Also, surviving is a brother-in-law, Venlo Wolfsohn of Bethesda. Mr. Leonard will be cremated and according to his wishes no services are planned. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Albemarle Area United Way, Unit 28, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
