NEW MADISON -- Beatrice "Bea" M. Lawrence, 97, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away, surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at her home. She was born on March 5, 1925, in Germantown, Ohio, to the late Olis and Anna May (Hankey) Knox.
In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Lawrence, whom she married on January 21, 1944; her siblings, Miriam (Ed) Brown, Bob Knox, and Dick (Wanda) Knox; and her brothers-in-law, Charles Smallwood and Herbert Turner.
Bea was a graduate of Jefferson High School in New Paris. She spent many years working for the New Madison Supermarket and the Mini Mart in New Madison. Bea and her husband, Ed, also owned and operated the Snack Shop for nearly 15 years. She attended the Harrison Street Baptist Church in New Madison for several years. Bea was also a past member of the Lewisburg Promenaders. In her free time, Bea loved capturing the deals at flea markets and garage sales. She also liked babysitting for family and friends.
Bea is survived by her children, Jim (Sharon) Lawrence, Vicki (Tye) McMahan, and Tami (Butch) Pogue, all of New Madison; her grandchildren, Lisa Hummel of Arcanum, Derrick (Stephanie) Lawrence of Griffin, Georgia, Troy (Lora) Lawrence of Herndon, Virginia, Dave (Kim) McMahan of New Madison, Shannon (Brad) Kushner of Sleepy Hollow, New York, Nikki (Keith) Spencer of New Madison, and Ryan (Cheri) Leonard of New Madison; her 15 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren; her siblings, Gene (Jeanne) Knox, Doris Smallwood, Phyllis Turner, and Carol (Wayne) Bowman, all of New Paris; her sister-in-law, Shirley Knox of New Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio, with Pastor Kyle Herrmann officiating.
