VERSAILLES -- Don Lee Loxley – "Don's Journey". Don's journey through this life began on a farm in Versailles, Ohio when he was born the second son to the late Ranald V. and Kathryn M. (Martin) Loxley in the family home October 7th, 1936. A strong work ethic was instilled in Don at a very early age helping and working on the farm with his Dad and older and younger brothers and mother as well. He enjoyed all his school years especially marching band at Versailles High along with many friends and relatives who attended the Versailles School System. After graduation in 1954 he entered the Army in 1959-1961 and reserves until 1964. Don also enjoyed playing "baritone" for the 2nd Division Army band in 1959-1961 on special occasions at their base. After his service years he returned to Darke County living in the Greenville area. He knew he did not want to be a multiple-generation farmer and accepted a position with Commonwealth Insurance in November 1961 as an Insurance Underwriter and continued in that business until November 1998 when retirement looked good. Don was honored many times with his company for sales achievements and retention, also as Man of the Year awards in 1977. Don was loved and respected by his clients for his integrity, character and honesty. Since infancy he attended and was a member of Versailles First Christian Church as was his parents, grandparents and many relatives. In addition to his parents Don was predeceased by older brother Gene Loxley, loving step son-in-law Dennis McClurg and step grandson Ryan Kimmel.
Don's greatest achievement in life not to be found in work or a member of a church but it was the realization he needed to have a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and received his greatest gift of salvation in 1983 (John 3:16). Prior to Don's move to Troy, Ohio he was very active in a great little church especially the choir and Director of music in Stelvideo, Ohio, Darke County and loved the friends and members there. After the move to Troy God led Don and his wife Mary to First Baptist Church, becoming members and he was active in the choir and especially enjoyed the "Men's" cooking group serving Wednesday meals monthly.
Don is and was loved by family and friends and will always be in their memories and hearts. His journey was not easy but the Lord gave him grace and mercy to walk it all the way to his eternal home secured by Salvation through Christ (John 3:16).
His children are Diane Polen, Gary (Jennie) Loxley, Tonda Hanson and Layne Loxley. The children he accepted as his own and they welcomed him as a second Dad, Mark (Lori) Kimmel, Steven (Lori) Kimmel, Christy McClurg, Timothy (Stephanie) Kimmel, Karen (Gene) Wiley, Melissa (Greg) McMillion, John (Heather) Kimmel and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 53 South Norwich Road, Troy, Ohio. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Wednesday.
